Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of thick bread (Brioche, Challah, or white bread work great)
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk (whole, almond, or your choice)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for sweetness)
- Pinch of salt
- Butter or oil for cooking
Optional Toppings:
- Maple syrup
- Fresh berries
- Powdered sugar
- Whipped cream
- Sliced bananas or other fruits
Instructions:
- Make the Batter:
- In a shallow bowl or wide dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Dip the Bread:
- Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for a few seconds on each side. Don't let it get too soggy.
- Cook the French Toast:
- Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot skillet.
- Cook for about 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve:
- Serve warm with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, fruit, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
- Tips:
- Slightly stale bread works best—it soaks up the custard without getting too soggy.
- Add a dash of nutmeg or a splash of orange juice for a twist in flavor.
